Arkansas State University-Mountain Home has been named a Purple Star Campus, a state designation recognizing institutions that provide dedicated support and resources for military-connected students and their families.
The college was awarded the designation April 6.
The Purple Star program identifies campuses with services tailored to military families, including designated staff points of contact, dedicated information websites and transition programs designed to help students stay on track academically and socially. The designation is awarded to both K-12 schools and higher education institutions.
Arkansas law requires public schools with at least 20 military-connected students to earn the designation. The program was created in response to the challenges military families face when frequent relocations interrupt a student’s education.
ASUMH Provost Robert Shurley led the college through the designation process. ASUMH leadership said the recognition is one step in a longer effort to build out support for veterans and their families.
The college has not announced specific new initiatives but said it plans to continue expanding services for military-affiliated students.
