The Democratic Party of Baxter County will host a fundraiser for U.S. Senate candidate Hallie Shoffner from 1 to 3 p.m. on May 13 at the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas in Mountain Home.
The event is open to the public, and refreshments will be served. The food bank is located at 1042 Highland Circle.
Shoffner, a sixth-generation farmer from Newport, won the Arkansas Democratic primary for U.S. Senate on March 3, defeating Lewisville Mayor Ethan Dunbar with about 81% of the vote. She will face two-term Republican incumbent Sen. Tom Cotton and Libertarian Jeff Wadlin of Bentonville in the Nov. 3 general election.
Shoffner grew up on a soybean and rice farm in the Arkansas Delta township of Shoffner, which is named for her family. She is a graduate of Newport High School, Vanderbilt University and the Clinton School of Public Service.
She returned to operate her family’s 2,000-acre farm in 2016 after college and ran the operation for nine years. She is also the founder and CEO of Delta Harvest, an organization focused on local food infrastructure and support for small farmers.
Shoffner and her family closed the farm in early 2025, citing rising input costs, low commodity prices, federal tariffs and what she described as inadequate Farm Bill relief. She launched her Senate campaign in July 2025.
Shoffner has campaigned on lowering costs for working families, restoring Medicaid, protecting Social Security, raising the minimum wage and rewriting the federal Farm Bill. She has criticized Cotton’s votes against the Farm Bill and his support for tax cuts she says benefit the wealthy.
Cotton, of Little Rock, was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2014. He chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee and the Senate Republican Conference. President Donald Trump, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders and all members of Arkansas’ congressional delegation have endorsed him.
Cotton reported nearly $9.7 million in campaign cash on hand before the primary, compared with Shoffner’s $504,000.
