The Baxter County Historical Museum will open Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and hand out free ice cream sandwiches to visitors ahead of the Red White & Blue Festival.
The museum is at 300 Bomber Blvd. in Mountain Home. Visitors can explore photographs, artifacts and the stories that shaped the county.
The museum is run by the Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society, a nonprofit funded by donations. The society moved the museum into its current single-level building, the former That Print Shop, to make it easier for the public to visit. It held a grand opening there in November 2024, coinciding with the society’s 50th anniversary.
The museum’s mission is to preserve and share the heritage of Baxter County and its people. Its collection includes digitized photographs, documents and family history records, along with displays of historic artifacts.
The society also helps maintain the historic Casey House, the 1858 home that is Mountain Home’s oldest standing structure.
Saturday’s opening falls on one of the museum’s summer Saturdays. Under its summer schedule, the museum is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
