The Baxter County Library Foundation is proud to announce The Friends of the Baxter County Library as the recipient of the 2022 Heart of the Library award. The Friends were presented with the award during a special donor recognition event held on October 13 at the Donald W. Reynolds Library Serving Baxter County.
The Heart of the Library award is given to individuals or organizations that have shown noteworthy and exemplary leadership in support of the Library Foundation by giving both resources and time. The Friends of the Baxter County Library has exemplified what it truly means to have a heart for the Library, and the Library Foundation is proud to honor the Friends in this way.
The Friends raise funds that contribute significantly to the operating revenue of the Library. They run a minimum of four used book sales, a live auction and two silent auctions every year. They operate a thriving on-line book sale business and host regular meetings with guest presenters for the community. They present college scholarships to 3-4 graduating Baxter County high school seniors annually, an ASU scholarship for a non-traditional, and a scholarship for a Library staff member furthering their education.
Since its founding in 1980, the Friends of the Baxter County Library have given over $650,000 to the Library. Funds raised by the Friends help purchase library materials, provide professional development training for Library staff, and sponsor programs. The Friends are currently co-sponsoring, along with the Library Foundation, the Diamonds Exhibit from the Museum of Discovery in Little Rock, which is at the Library now.
The Friends of the Baxter County Library aid in developing public understanding of the Library and making it better known to the community’s citizens. Friends provide funds that would not otherwise be available for the Library. They donate their time and hard work to our various programs and services and encourage gifts of books and materials to the Library. Their example of giving and volunteering is an inspiration for others and the embodiment of the Heart of the Library Award. Become a Friend of the Library today! Membership dues of $5.00 per year.
