Baxter Health has added Dr. Gerald Belopolsky to its Pulmonology Clinic, where he is now accepting new patients.
Belopolsky practices pulmonary and critical care medicine, the specialty focused on the lungs, breathing and the care of seriously ill patients, often in intensive care. He works alongside Dr. Brian Malte and has more than 30 years in the field.
He came to Mountain Home from UPMC Altoona in Pennsylvania, where he worked as a pulmonary and critical care physician. Before that, he spent a decade on the faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, treating complex cases and training physicians now practicing across the country.
Belopolsky’s work includes diagnosing and treating lung disease, caring for patients on breathing machines, and performing advanced procedures on the airways and lungs. Lung cancer detection and treatment has been a focus of his career, and he has spoken on the subject at national physician conferences.
He earned his medical degree from Ukraine National Medical University in Kyiv and completed his internal medicine residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He finished a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he served as chief fellow, and is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care.
Belopolsky speaks English, Ukrainian and Russian. Outside of medicine, he is a photographer, skier and tennis player who enjoys classical music, wine collecting and travel.
Brian Barnett, vice president of physician enterprise and business development at Baxter Health, said Belopolsky “brings a depth of experience and a range of skills” that will help patients facing serious lung disease or critical illness.
