The Baxter Health Auxiliary will hold a morning gathering Tuesday for residents interested in volunteering, the second stop in a three-part series built around muffins, coffee and conversation.
The June 23 session runs from 10 a.m. to noon at the Mruk Family Center on Aging, 618 Broadmore Drive in Mountain Home. The “We Are Muffin Without You” series is aimed at people curious about volunteer opportunities with the auxiliary.
Each session is hosted at one of Baxter Health’s community support houses, the network of facilities the hospital operates to extend education and care beyond its main campus.
Tuesday’s host, the Mruk Family Center on Aging, focuses on programs and resources for older adults and their caregivers. It stands alongside the Schliemann Center and Peitz house as one of the system’s dedicated support facilities.
The series opened May 11 at the Schliemann Center for Women’s Health, 606 Broadmore Drive. The center traces back to 2005 and the vision of Dr. Mary Wren, a Cotter native and former chief of obstetric services at the hospital. It offers prenatal classes, support groups and educational programs for women at every stage of life.
The final session is set for July 23 at the Peitz Cancer Support House, 315 Powers Street. That house grew out of a need its founder, the late industrialist Peter Peitz, saw among workers driving hours for cancer care, and his wife Jan, a registered nurse, oversaw construction of the support center in 1999. It offers counseling, support sessions and a wig and scarf bank for patients.
