Mike Risk, a longtime Baxter Health volunteer, was recently presented with a Heroes with Halos Award.
The award was presented by Sarah Edwards, executive director of the Baxter Health Foundation; Katie King Risk; Becky Rose, volunteer services director; and Anthony Reed, vice president of ancillary services.
The Heroes with Halos program recognizes Baxter Health providers, employees, volunteers and departments who have made a positive impact on a patient, family member or fellow staff member.
A patient submitted the nomination for Risk, describing a moment on the hospital shuttle that brightened a hard day in the Emergency Department.
“Mike picked us up in the shuttle and gave us a ride around the parking lot while he dropped people off. My toddler grandson was waiting to be roomed in the Emergency Department and this kindness made our whole day better. Mike was so sweet to him and had him waving at everyone.”
Risk is a familiar face in the Twin Lakes Area. He serves with the Friends of the North Fork and White Rivers and helps lead the Dodd Creek Stream Team, where he teaches local students about stream bank erosion during the group’s annual education event.
Risk is also a steady supporter of the Donald W. Reynolds Library. He and his wife, Katie, are platinum-level sponsors of the library’s annual Wrap It Up campaign and other fundraising efforts.
The couple was recognized as the Observer’s Family of the Year earlier this year for their decades of community service.
