Hello Mountain Home,
We’re officially headed into the weekend and it’s time for Mountain Home’s 24th annual Red, White & Blue Festival.
The festival marks a special time in summer when residents from all over the Twin Lakes Area come together to celebrate Independence Day. This year’s festival started a little bit earlier this year thanks to a new carnival that opened last night.
I hope everyone had a good time.
The festival also marks a good opportunity for residents to support local businesses and families. There’s going to be a ton of vendors and food trucks at the festival this weekend, and the families that run them would love your support.
It’s also a good time to support our local restaurants in the area. The Dels family has a big weekend as we head into the festival. Cove Coffee is finally back open after recovering from last month’s storm. If you haven’t checked it out yet, Kelsey Bertel and crew put in a lot of work over the past few weeks to give Mountain Home’s sit-down coffee shop a face uplift.
In addition to Cove Coffee, the crew at the Dels are opening Buzz’s Pies & Pub today. The new restaurant is located on 8th Street in downtown Mountain Home. Buzz’s Pies have been sneaking samples of their pizza pies around town over the past few weeks and they’ve been a hit.
Check them out this weekend if you get a chance. Be sure to stop by Scoop Ice Cream for dessert after you finish your pie.
For those looking for a quieter adventure this week, both the Mountain Home Farmer’s Market and the Cotter Farmer’s Market will open on Saturday. The Cotter Farmer’s Market is new to the area and is celebrating its grand opening in Big Spring Park.
With a busy weekend ahead, I look forward to seeing everyone later. I’m officially out of town for the Arkansas Press Association’s annual convention but will be back to take photos of the Red, White & Blue Festival on Saturday.
This year’s APA convention is special to us here at the Observer because, after two years of waiting, we are finally able to compete against our peers in this year’s competition. Prior to this year, digital newspapers could not compete in its yearly awards competitions.
Please be sure to hydrate this weekend, it’s going to be a hot one.
Chris Fulton
