The Mountain Home High School Bomber Band brought patriotic music to their next-door neighbors at Hiram Shaddox Health & Rehab this week, performing an outdoor concert that had residents singing along from windows and patios.
Under the direction of Tom Chentnik, the band performed classics including “God Bless America” and other American favorites in the facility’s courtyard. The proximity of the two institutions, which sit next to each other, made the special performance possible.
“Our residents absolutely lit up hearing the band play,” said Joseph Caster, Director of Marketing and Administrator-in-Training at Hiram Shaddox. “You could see the joy on their faces. Many of them were singing along or clapping to the beat. It’s moments like this that remind us how important connection between generations can be.”
Following the performance, Chentnik and his students took time to greet residents personally, demonstrating what organizers called the community spirit of the Mountain Home Bombers both on and off the field.
The concert brought visible emotions from residents, with observers noting smiles, toe-tapping, and tears of pride as the patriotic music filled the courtyard. Residents listened from both their windows and the facility’s patio areas.
The partnership between the high school and the rehabilitation facility will continue next month when the band returns for a Christmas performance in December. The holiday concert will mark another opportunity for the two neighboring communities to connect through music.
The outdoor concert format allowed residents to enjoy the performance safely while experiencing live music from the student musicians. The close proximity of the school and facility makes such collaborations particularly convenient for both organizations.
Hiram Shaddox Health & Rehab provides skilled nursing and rehabilitation services to area residents. The facility’s location adjacent to Mountain Home High School has created opportunities for intergenerational programs and activities throughout the year.
