Mountain Home High School is celebrating the achievements of its NJROTC (Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) program, as the students once again made a splash at an annual regional competition held at Willard High School in Willard, Missouri.
The Bomber Battalion NJROTC program was one of eight teams from Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas to compete in Willard High School’s 2023 Drone and Drill Team Competition, held on November 3rd and 4th. The yearly event is the first NJROTC competition for Area 13 and marks the beginning of the drill season for cadets across the region.
Led by coaches, Chief Jason Williams and Lieutenant Commander Allan Hale, along with the battalion’s commanding officer, Cadet Commander Emalyn Stephens, the Bombers were the top-performing unit from the state of Arkansas, placing second overall. Academic team commander, Cadet Lieutenant Dylan Prins led his team to first place on the Academic Exam. Cadet Lieutenant Commander Ryan Amick led his team to second place in the Armed Exhibition team competition. The Bombers placed in the top 5 in all other competitions, including Unarmed Regulation led by Cadet Lieutenant Ivy Hartman, Armed Regulation and Athletics, both led by Cadet Lieutenant Commander Justin Rula, Unarmed Exhibition led by Cadet Lieutenant Junior Grade Rose Taylor, Color Guard led by Cadet Lieutenant Commander Makaela Broad and Drone competition led by Cadet Lieutenant Ethan Darracq.
The Mountain Home NJROTC Drill Team is a team of Cadets who exemplify the traits of discipline, teamwork and leadership skills learned in the NJROTC program. The Drill Team performs at various competitions throughout the region and state of Arkansas. When the Drill Team participates in local competitions, they exhibit as much pride in their school as other varsity team sports and compete with honor and precision while simultaneously balancing their core class schedule and workload at Mountain Home High School.
Up next for the Bomber Battalion will be the Annual Airadale Invitational, December 8th and 9th, hosted by Alma High School NJROTC, where the cadets will compete in Drone and Drill competitions against Navy, Army, Air Force, and Marine JROTC units across multiple states in the region.
The Bombers will host a drill competition here in Mountain Home at the junior high campus on January 13th as well as the drone flying area championship, “Drone-ageddon,” on February 24th.
The public is encouraged to attend and cheer on their cadets at all competitions.
