Buffalo National River Partners is pleased to be partnering with The Ozark Society in showing the Ozark Society film, First River: How Arkansas Saved a National Treasure. As part of the educational programming of the Buffalo National River Partners, the movie will be shown on Tuesday evening, July 26, 2022 at the South Campus of North Arkansas College in Room M143. The movie will begin at 6:00 p.m. and the location is 1515 Pioneer Drive, Harrison, Arkansas. The event is free and open to the public.
This historical documentary produced by The Ozark Society encapsulates a historical timeline of how the Buffalo River became one of the nation’s first protected waterways. The movie highlights the politics and the progression involved with this initiative in the 1970’s and outlines the various figures, organizations, and background that came into play as legislation moved forward in Washington, D.C. for the protected status we now enjoy.
We are pleased to have Luke and Janet Parsch from the Ozark Society attending this event to give background on the creation of the film and to answer questions. Janet was a member of the committee that produced the First River documentary. Since 2004, Luke and Janet have been friends and supporters of Ken Smith, first through trail-building and maintenance of the Buffalo River Trail, then through logistics support for acquiring the Roberts Tract to complete the 28-mile BRT/ORT extension and publishing the second edition of Ken’s Buffalo River Handbook.
