The city of Mountain Home has announced that former Mountain Home Mayor David Osmon has passed away.
Born in Poinsett County, Osmon graduated from Arkansas High School in Bald Knob in 1959. After high school, Osmon attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro before transferring to Ouchita Baptist University.
He graduated in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biology. He held a minor in math. His degree would serve him well in the United States Air Force between 1964 to 1967 where he served as a biochemist in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
In 1968, Osmon studied business administration at Auburn University in Alabama before attending law school at Memphis State University from 1968 to 1971. He graduates from Memphis State with a Juris Doctor’s Degree.
In 1971, the former mayor because an auditor with the IRS Estate and Gift Tax Division before starting a general practice in Mountain Home. Osmon served as a lawyer in Mountain Home until 2006 before becoming Mayor in 2007. He served the city until 2014.
He is survived by Nancy Osmon and their four children, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mayor Osmon was a member of First United Methodist Church here in Mountain Home.
