Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has signed Executive Order 25-06 extending the tax filing deadline for residents and businesses in 18 Arkansas counties affected by the March 14 severe storms and tornadoes.
The executive order, signed on March 20, extends the 2024 income tax filing and payment deadline from April 15, 2025, to July 31, 2025, for citizens and businesses in the impacted counties.
The counties covered by the extension include Baxter, Chicot, Clark, Fulton, Greene, Hempstead, Hot Spring, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Lawrence, Nevada, Phillips, Randolph, Sharp, Stone, White, and Woodruff.
The order provides several forms of relief:
- Extends the deadline for filing 2024 tax returns and payments to July 31, 2025, for all taxpayers in the affected counties, including individuals, corporations, and various business entities
- Extends quarterly estimated income tax and pass-through entity tax payments due between March 14 and June 30, 2025, to July 31, 2025
- Waives the requirement for written requests for tax filing extensions through July 31, 2025
- Waives fees for duplicate driver’s licenses, instruction permits, and identification cards through July 31, 2025
- Waives the $10 fee for expedited title processing services through July 31, 2025
- Waives interest and penalties for failure to timely register a vehicle or renew vehicle registration through July 31, 2025
The executive order follows the state of emergency declared on March 15 in Executive Order 25-05 after severe thunderstorms and tornadoes struck multiple Arkansas counties.
“Adverse circumstances have been brought to bear upon citizens and public properties within the State of Arkansas and certain political subdivisions require assistance from the state to recover from these losses,” the executive order states.
The order is authorized under the Emergency Services Act and other statutes that allow the governor to suspend regulatory statutes that would delay action in coping with the declared emergency.
