The Baxter County Historical & Genealogical Society is preparing for a major fundraising event next month and is calling on the community for support.
The Society will participate in Mountain Home’s citywide yard sale on Oct. 4-5, hosting their own sale at their new museum location at 300 Bomber Blvd. In addition to the yard sale, they will hold a bake sale and offer tours of the new museum, which is still a work in progress.
To make this event successful, the Society is seeking donations of items for the yard sale. Community members can drop off donations at the museum on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For those unable to drop off items, the Society will arrange to pick them up. Interested donors can call 870-425-2551 and leave a message to schedule a pickup.
Baked goods are also needed for the bake sale portion of the event. Bakers can drop off their creations at the museum on Oct. 2-3 as volunteers set up for the sale. Items should be on disposable plates.
The Society is also in need of volunteers to help run both the yard sale and bake sale. They are looking for someone to take charge of the bake sale, including pricing and arranging items. Ideally, they hope to have enough baked goods and volunteers to run the sale on both Friday and Saturday.
Volunteers can sign up for shifts if they’re unable to stay all day or work both days. The bake sale will be held in the museum’s research area, while the yard sale will take place outside. Volunteers are needed for both areas.
This fundraiser comes as the Historical Society works to establish its new museum location on Bomber Boulevard. Proceeds will support the Society’s ongoing efforts to preserve and share Baxter County’s rich history.
Those interested in donating items, baked goods or their time can contact the Historical Society at 870-425-2551 or visit the museum during its open hours.
