The Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society is asking the public to buy the Casey House a new porch, one board at a time.
The society is selling white oak porch plank sponsorships for $150 each as part of its All A-Board campaign, according to a flyer the group released this month. Smaller donations and gifts toward entire phases of the project are also being accepted.
The porch is one of three exterior pieces in the restoration plan, along with a historically accurate roof and a new foundation. Born to Roof is handling that work.
Restoration of the 1858 house has been running since last year and has already moved indoors, where crews installed new floors and hung period wallpaper.
The county put $100,000 toward the project in its 2025 budget. The society also received a $68,000 state grant after asking for $142,000 to cover the first phase.
Col. Randolph D. Casey built the two-room dog-trot cabin in 1858, and it is the oldest standing structure in Mountain Home. It still sits where he put it, at East Wade and Arena streets next to the Baxter County Fairgrounds.
The house held Baxter County’s first court and Mountain Home’s first post office. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in December 1975.
The society is a nonprofit and says donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.
Donations and plank sponsorships can be arranged by calling 870-425-2551, emailing [email protected] or writing to the society at P.O. Box 2125, Mountain Home, AR 72654.
