Scott Bryant, Stewart Rogers, and Scott Booth all gave statements on why they believe to be the best candidate for Mountain Home School Board position 6 on KTLO yesterday morning.
The nonpartisan position is currently held by Neal Pendergrass who is retiring after 24 years of service.
Heather Loftis at KTLO moderated the candidate forum and kicked off questions from teachers and the general public covering topics such as their volunteer service, the LEARNS act, meetings with stakeholders, teacher morale, and even term limits.
All three candidates agreed that the district needs a new high school facility. All three have also toured the “Big Top” at the high school as well as many other school facilities in Mountain Home.

Stewart Rogers

Position on millage: Yes, Supports
Political affiliation: Lists Republican on candidate filing, voter registration lists none

Spouse: Cindy Rogers
Attended public school: Yes, Graduated from Benton High School
Rogers’ wife was a teacher at Nelson Wilks for 14 years. Both of his daughters graduated from Mountain Home. Rogers has a grandson currently attending Nelson Wilks and a granddaughter that will be attending Mountain Home public schools in just a few short years.
Scott Booth
Age: 44
Occupation: Self-employed, Owns/operates a weight loss clinic
Position on millage: Has not stated how he will vote
Political affiliation: None listed on candidate filing or voter registration
Years in Mountain Home: 9
Spouse: Allison Booth
Attended public school: Yes, also attended private school and homeschool in Mississippi.
Booth spent 11 years in active-duty military service with the Marine Corps. Booth’s eldest child is finishing up her kindergarten year in the district. He has two more children that will be starting to enter Mountain Home public schools within a couple years.
All three candidates timely submitted a statement of financial interest with the Baxter County Clerk. Pre-election campaign finance reports for all candidates are now due, provided that a candidate received or made expenditures in excess of $500.
There is a possibility that this race may end up in a runoff election. The deadline to register to vote for a runoff election is May 8.
Early voting also ends on May 8. Voters may vote early at the Baxter County Courthouse.
Election day is May 9.
