In September of this year, Mayor Hillrey Adams called together a group of community leaders to look at the issue of homeless individuals and families within our community. The Homeless Initiative Task Force is trying to identify current problems, use current resources in our community and explore opportunities to respond to the issue of homelessness.
The Homeless Initiative Task Force decided to work with a group that has provided shelter for individuals and families in the past during colder weather. The Reach Center has opened their doors to help provide food and shelter and bathroom facilities to the homeless. The shelter also provides clothes, if needed, personal hygiene items and give support to fill out forms and job applications.
Kirby Brown from The Reach Center is accepting a check from Committee member Deborah Knox and her husband, Dr. Tom Knox to help support the use of the center as a permanent homeless shelter this year versus an emergency shelter in the past.
Also in the picture, left to right, is Committee member Sarah Edwards, Committee member Sara Zimmerman, Jennifer Daniel with The Reach Center, Kirby Brown, Mayor Hillrey Adams, Deborah Knox, Committee member Daniel Thueson and Committee member Jeff Quick.
If you would like to support this effort, donations may be mailed to The Reach Center, P O Box 521, Mountain Home, AR 72654 or dropped off at the center located at 1326 Rossi Road in Mountain Home.
