Mountain Home City Clerk Scott Liles will run for a second term this fall. Liles, 49, was elected to the office in 2022 and is finishing his first four-year term.
“It has been one of the greatest joys of my life to serve as your City Clerk for the past three-and-a-half years,” Liles said. “I am incredibly grateful for the trust and support you’ve given me.”
The clerk’s seat is one of several city offices on the Nov. 3 general election ballot. Voters will also decide the races for mayor and all eight City Council seats.
“I humbly ask for your vote and support as I seek a second term as Mountain Home City Clerk,” Liles said.
The clerk’s office publishes meeting agendas, records the City Council’s minutes and drafts the city’s ordinances and resolutions. The clerk also serves as the custodian of city records and works alongside the mayor and council.
Liles has spent his first term moving the office toward digital records. Past and current council minutes, ordinances and resolutions are now kept as searchable PDF files that are easier to share with residents who request them.
He has also digitized the City Council meeting packets, which are combined into a single electronic file and released a week before each meeting. Every file in the office has been uploaded to an online database, with backups kept in the clerk’s office, on the city’s server and off site.
Beyond Mountain Home, Liles has helped surrounding cities and towns research and write ordinances and resolutions. He is a member of the Arkansas City Clerks, Treasurers and Recorders Association and has authored several pieces of legislation shared through the group.
Liles is a Searcy native and earned a journalism degree from the University of Central Arkansas in 2000. He moved to Mountain Home a decade ago to work as a reporter and assistant editor for The Baxter Bulletin, and he has also worked for KTLO News, the Harrison Daily Times and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
“Serving Mountain Home has truly been an honor,” Liles said. “This community has given me so much, and I am dedicated to continuing to give back.”
