Mountain Home High School’s NJROTC rifle team secured their second consecutive win in the 2024 National Sporter Air Rifle League, edging out Milton NJROTC (FL) with a score of 1026.2 to 1021.7.
Lukas Pool led Mountain Home’s scoring with 269.5 points, supported by teammates Emerson Walls, Ethan Darracq, and Brittany Jones. The team, coached by Jason Williams, now holds a 3-1 record in the league’s Distinguished Division, where they currently rank twentieth nationally and eighth in the Navy JROTC Conference.
The competition involves Three-Position Air Rifle matches modeled after Olympic competitions but adapted for high school athletes. Competitors fire 10 shots from three positions – kneeling, prone, and standing – with each shot worth up to 10.9 points. Team scores comprise the top four shooters’ combined totals.
Mountain Home’s next match will pit them against Eldorado NJROTC from Las Vegas, NV, which currently holds a 3-2 record.
The league consists of an eight-week regular season followed by post-season play. The top eight teams from the Champions Division will advance to a single-elimination tournament for the league championship.
