Each Mountain Home Public Schools campus was presented with its official Purple Star School banner this week, recognizing the district’s commitment to supporting military service members, veterans and their families.
Students and staff across the district wore purple and gathered by school to mark the presentations.
The Arkansas Purple Star School Award recognizes schools that show a commitment to serving military-connected students and families. The program is operated by the Arkansas Council for Military Children in cooperation with the Arkansas Department of Education.
Schools must meet several requirements to qualify, including designating a staff liaison for military families, providing transition support for military-connected students and offering professional development for staff on issues affecting those students.
“Being recognized as Purple Star Schools reflects more than a designation,” the district said in a statement. “It represents our district’s commitment to creating a culture of respect, gratitude, and support for those who have served our country.”
The district thanked military families in the Bomber community for their service and sacrifice.
