Mountain Home High School has partnered with Baxter Health and Arkansas State University – Mountain Home to provide its students with opportunities to become qualified RNs, LPNs, and paramedics.
The programs have seen great success with many students going on to become health care professionals. Last year, the Big Three partnered together again to expand their LPN program to reach more students, even going as far as to provide high school students with a $500 monthly stipend as they worked their way through the program.
Mountain Home High School is also on the bleeding edge of introducing students to medical programs early. The school’s Medical Clinical Internship, which is modeled off of a Harvard program in Boston public schools, is a partnership effort between Baxter Regional and Mountain Home High School’s Career Academy. It is one of the only programs to provide hands on training for high school students in the United States
The internship, which is available to seniors at the high school, focuses on providing students with both a classroom learning experience and a simulated lab experience to prepare them for a potential career in the healthcare industry.
Throughout the semester, students participate in three code blue’s, the term used for a patient that is no longer breathing, in preparation for participating in a mock trauma simulation at the end of the semester. Students also learn about labor and delivery through a mock birth, surgery, correctly donning protective equipment, and CPR. Each student receives their CPR certification at the end of the program.
More information on MHHS’s various medical programs and opportunities can be found through the schools website.
