Mountain Home High School senior Hunter Coy has been named a semifinalist for the 2027 class of the Coca-Cola Scholars Program, putting him in the running for one of 150 college scholarships worth $20,000 each.
Coy is one of 1,227 seniors nationwide chosen from more than 113,000 applications, according to the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. Semifinalists are picked for academic excellence, leadership and service in school and community activities.
The program, funded by The Coca-Cola Company and its bottlers, describes itself as the largest corporate-sponsored, achievement-based scholarship program in the country. With the 2027 class, the foundation says it will have awarded more than $93 million to more than 7,300 students over 39 years.
“We believe that identifying these young leaders throughout the country and encouraging their passion for serving others not only empowers the students but also lifts up those around them,” foundation President Jane Hale Paulsen said.
Semifinalists now move to a second application that includes essays, a recommendation and a transcript. An independent selection committee will name 250 regional finalists in early January for online interviews, and 150 of those will be named Coke Scholars in late February.
The winners will travel to Atlanta for Coca-Cola Scholars Weekend, April 15 to 18, 2027, where they will attend the 39th annual Coca-Cola Scholars Banquet and a leadership institute run by program alumni before receiving their scholarships.
Scholars also join an alumni network that offers coaching for first-year college students, professional development programs and a leadership summit held every five years.
