A Mountain Home organization founded to serve Arkansas’s female veterans is raising money to commission a bronze statue honoring women who have served in the nation’s military, with plans to install the memorial at Veterans Plaza by 2027.
Military Service Sisters, founded in Mountain Home in 2017, recently announced the project after commissioning the creation of a kneeling female soldier rendered in bronze. The organization is seeking donations from individuals, businesses and organizations to fund the work.
The group was created by and for women veterans to serve the more than 20,000 female veterans living in Arkansas, many of them in the Baxter County area. The Mountain Home chapter has since expanded to several chapters statewide and developed a working relationship with the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs to help connect women veterans with resources.
Donors of $1,000 or more will be recognized on a plaque as part of the completed memorial.
