The Mruk Family Center on Aging will host a free program on the MIND Diet and how food choices can protect memory and brain health from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Sept. 29.
Registered dietitian MaLinda Coffman, MS, RD, LD, will lead the session at the center, 624 Hospital Drive, across from the Baxter Health main entrance. Anyone interested can register by calling 870-508-3880.
The MIND Diet is an eating pattern built to support cognitive health and lower the risk of mental decline with age. It combines pieces of the Mediterranean and DASH diets and leans on foods such as leafy greens, berries, nuts, whole grains and healthy fats.
Coffman will cover what the MIND Diet is and what the science says about it, which foods to stock up on and which to limit, and simple ways to work brain-healthy meals into a daily routine.
The program is aimed at people looking to make changes for themselves as well as those caring for a loved one.
The Mruk Family Center on Aging is a Baxter Health community education house that offers free programs on aging issues such as Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, arthritis, caregiving and home safety. It is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
