Music show for all ages kicks off The Donald W. Reynolds Library’s Summer reading program

The Baxter County Library kicks off “Oceans of Possibilities,” a line-up of fun, educational summer programs, Saturday, June 4, 9:00am with a musical performance by Will & Cecelia Parker.  In addition to the music, there will be games, snacks, and indoor miniature golf.  The kick-off celebration is a great time to register your child for one or more of the Library’s up-and-coming Science, Engineering, and Art (S.E.A.) summer classes and summer reading.

The Library has assembled fun classes that educate and entertain your child over the summer. Classes like Raincloud in a Jar, Ocean Slime, Water Balloon Painting, Paper Quilling, and Tie-Dye are just a few exciting classes offered this summer to inspire imagination.  The Library is even hosting Movie Mondays every Monday starting at 10:00am.  With over 40 classes ranging from Cardboard Boats to Teen Yoga, the Baxter County Library always has something going on.  Pick up one of their summer program guides today or visit to find a complete list of the Oceans of Possibilities programs.

Help your child escape the summer slide by encouraging them to participate in one of the library’s reading challenges The Youth Summer Reading Program runs from June 4-August 6, and includes reading challenges for young readers, children, tweens, and teens.  Participants will need to log their reading time on paper or the new reading-tracking app “Beanstack.” After reaching set reading milestones, your child can earn prizes. Complete the Summer Reading Program Challenge to be entered to win grand prizes for each age group. Also, have some extra fun completing Summer Book Bingo or the Summer Bucket List challenge.

The Library isn’t just catering to young people over the summer.  Adults have their own line-up of concerts and reading activities.  The Adult Summer Reading Challenge is a great way to expand your reading selection.  The challenge will run from June 4 to August 6.  Participants must register with their library card and complete six of the ten reading prompts to be entered into the grand prize.  Adults can also attend our Coloring Club every Wednesday at 9:30 am. Lastly, the Library Summer Concert Line-up brings several talented groups and musicians to the Library, like the Daniel Bennett Group.
