Students at Nelson-Wilks-Herron Elementary spent last week exploring the history, culture and traditions of their home state during the school’s annual Arkansas Week.
The week featured hands-on activities, guest speakers and demonstrations designed to give students a closer look at Arkansas heritage. Activities ranged from milking cows and making butter to water safety lessons focused on local lakes and rivers.
“We love seeing our students learn about the people, traditions, and communities that make Arkansas such a special place to call home,” the school said in a statement.
Community partners helped lead several of the week’s activities. Representatives from Legacy Racquet and Fitness and local law enforcement officers visited the school to connect with students and share in the celebration.
The school thanked partners for their role in the week.
“A special thank you to the community partners who helped make the week so engaging for our students,” the school said.
