Pinkston Middle School seventh-grade students will honor local veterans during the second annual “Take a Veteran to School” event Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 8 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.
Students are inviting area veterans to spend the day at the school, where they will have the opportunity to share photos, memorabilia or other objects from their service time. Veterans are encouraged to bring any items they would like to share with students, though weapons are not allowed on campus.
“You will be able to display the things you bring and we have selected setting up small groups of students during their social studies classes, in order for us to have an accurate count for setup and lunch purposes,” the school stated in its invitation.
Veterans who plan to attend are asked to RSVP by Friday, Oct. 31, to help with planning. Those interested can contact the Pinkston Middle School office at 870-425-1236 or send an email to [email protected].
The day’s schedule includes:
- 8 to 8:45 a.m. — Arrival, sign-in and setup, with small groups of students and other veterans enjoying donuts and coffee. Veterans may park in any available space near the building, with students waiting outside the front and right side entrances to escort them. Separate parking lots are located near each entrance.
- 9 a.m. — Official welcome to Pinkston Middle School and presentation of colors by Mountain Home NJROTC Bomber Battalion cadets
- 9:10 to 11 a.m. — Veterans visit with small groups of students as they rotate through tables during social studies classes
- 11 to 12:35 p.m. — Lunch served; Pinkston choir will share a short program
- 12:40 to 2:50 p.m. — Veterans continue visiting with small groups of students as they rotate through tables during social studies classes
“We hope you can spend the day with us so that all of our students can benefit from meeting you, but even if you can’t stay the entire time, please join us for as long as you can,” the invitation stated.
The event provides an opportunity for students to learn firsthand about military service and connect with veterans from their community.
