The Baxter County Quorum Court will hear a presentation on a new coroner’s building and consider moving $250,000 into the county maintenance shop’s fuel budget when it meets Tuesday.
The court meets at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 6 in the second-floor courtroom of the courthouse, with County Judge Kevin Litty presiding.
The agenda lists a presentation from DEMX on a coroner’s building, though the packet includes no details on the proposal, its cost or where it would be built.
The largest item on the agenda is an ordinance appropriating $250,000 from the county general fund into the maintenance shop’s 2026 budget for fuel, oil and lubricants. The ordinance says the money is needed “for proper expenditures” but gives no further explanation for the size of the transfer.
The court will also consider a $22,000 appropriation from the general fund into the Circuit Court Division 3 budget to cover jury payments through the end of the year. The money would go to the court’s jurors and witnesses line item.
Two smaller ordinances would return money the sheriff’s office and juvenile services collected in fees and reimbursements to their budgets.
The sheriff’s office took in $8,802.19 in August above what was budgeted. The total includes $2,674.97 in installment fees, $1,800.50 in Act 770 fees, a $2,000 donation and a $335 animal claim payment, along with reimbursements for inmate medical care and prescriptions. The money would be split across the general fund, the animal control fund, the sheriff’s special projects fund and the county jail fund.
The Juvenile Services Department collected $10,435.88 in reimbursements in September. Of that, $10,000 would go toward other professional services and $435.88 toward fuel.
The court will also take up an ordinance imposing a one-year moratorium on cryptocurrency kiosks in the unincorporated parts of the county. The Observer has a separate story on that measure.
Two resolutions would confirm appointments to rural fire boards. Dale Wheeler and Sherry Milhon would be reappointed to the Henderson Volunteer Fire Department board of commissioners for three-year terms ending in October 2029. Justice of the Peace Rick Steiner is sponsoring that resolution.
Julie Wood would be appointed to the Cotter/Gassville Rural Fire Protection District board to fill the seat left open by the resignation of Danielle Pugsley. The term runs through February 2027. Justices of the Peace Lisa House and Shannon Walker are sponsoring the resolution.
County Treasurer Jenay Mize will give the treasurer’s report, and the court will hear committee reports.
The court’s November meeting has been moved to Monday, Nov. 2.
