The Baxter County Quorum Court will consider more than $1.3 million in appropriations Tuesday, with the largest shares going to airport hangar work and the coroner’s building project.
The court meets at 5:30 p.m. in the second-floor courtroom of the Baxter County Courthouse. County Judge Kevin Litty will preside.
The largest item is an ordinance appropriating $632,973.52 in reimbursable state grants for the Baxter County Airport. The money comes through two Arkansas grants and must be spent before the county is paid back. It would fund $447,703.52 for an 80-by-60 clear span building and $185,270 for a six-bay open T hangar.
The second largest is $561,926.75 from the Coroner’s Building Fund. Of that, $501,926.75 is listed as construction in progress and $60,000 is for engineering and architecture.
Three smaller appropriations round out the list:
- $88,632.78 from the Circuit Court Automation Fund to buy audiovisual equipment
- $25,876.89 in fees, reimbursements and donations the sheriff’s office collected in June beyond what was budgeted
- $13,000 for Road and Bridge from the sale of a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe to Marion County government
The sheriff’s money came from a mix of sources, including $19,561.74 in auction proceeds, $3,427.09 in installment fees and $1,105 in Act 770 fees. Smaller amounts came from DWI fines, VIN checks, animal adoptions, scrap metal and a $10 donation. Roughly $1,046 covers jail medical costs and inmate prescriptions.
Before new business, Sam Seamans is scheduled to give a presentation on an underwater body locating device for the coroner’s office. The agenda lists no cost or funding request tied to the presentation.
Justices of the peace will also take up three resolutions.
One would authorize Litty to apply for a $15,000 state grant on behalf of the Clarkridge Volunteer Fire Department through the Arkansas Rural Development Commission. The department plans to buy a heavy-duty four-wheel-drive diesel flatbed truck and mount a water tank and pump on it. Clarkridge has already raised $25,000 in cash and in-kind donations as a local match, according to the resolution. Justice of the Peace M. McDonald of District 2 is the sponsor.
A second resolution would confirm Litty’s reappointment of Cindy Blankenship to the Gamaliel Fire Protection District Board of Commissioners for a three-year term expiring in August 2029. Justice of the Peace R. Steiner of District 3 is the sponsor.
The third would confirm the appointment of Beth Vanderstek to the Baxter County Library Board for a five-year term expiring in August 2031. No sponsor is listed on the resolution.
County Treasurer Jenay Mize is set to deliver the treasurer’s report. The agenda also includes committee reports, announcements and disposition of minutes from the last meeting.
