Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders and U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins toured the Veterans Affairs Law Enforcement Training Center on Wednesday, visiting with staff and trainees at the Fort Roots campus facility.
Arkansas Secretary of Veterans Affairs Col. Robert Ator (Ret.) and U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford, R-Ark., joined the delegation.
The group toured the facility’s café, gun range control room and physical training spaces. They met with employees and Post Class 2604 and participated in target range firing during the visit.
The VA LETC serves as the primary training academy for VA police officers nationwide. Its curriculum focuses on law enforcement operations, public safety and veteran-focused services. Officers trained at the facility are responsible for protecting VA facilities, patients and staff across the country.
Following the tour, Sanders, Collins and Ator held a roundtable discussion with VA executive members, trainees from Post Class 2604 and Instructor Development Class 2605, and LETC staff.
The visit comes as the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs continues to expand its veteran workforce model, which connects transitioning servicemembers with a Veteran Service Office to access benefits and a Veteran Employment Specialist to assist with job placement.
