The public is invited to meet Buckley and other dogs from Canine Companions at the Donald W. Reynolds Library on Tuesday, July 14.
The free event runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at the library, 300 Library Hill Lane in Mountain Home. No registration is required, and light refreshments will be served.
Canine Companions raises and trains service dogs and provides them at no cost to children, adults and veterans with disabilities. The meet and greet is a chance to learn about the group and how to get involved, including by raising a puppy.
Founded in 1975, the national nonprofit provides its dogs and all follow-up services free of charge. Its service dogs perform tasks such as pulling wheelchairs, picking up dropped items, turning lights on and off and opening doors.
The group also trains hearing dogs that alert to sounds such as doorbells and alarms, skilled companions for people with physical or developmental disabilities, facility dogs for professionals in healthcare, criminal justice and education, and dogs for veterans with PTSD.
The event is sponsored by Tink Albright and Richard Taffner.
