Seven Mountain Home students will each receive a $1,000 scholarship simply for showing up and signing up at the Lady Bombers State Finals game.
The Mountain Home Education Foundation held a drawing Thursday for scholarships funded by seven community donors. Students who attended the game and registered were eligible.
“Anytime that you can encourage school spirit and post-secondary education, it’s a win for all,” said Mountain Home Public Schools Athletic Director Mitch Huskey, who also serves as assistant coach for the Lady Bombers. “We appreciate our community supporting us, like they always have, and the Mountain Home Education Foundation.”
MHEF Executive Director Mollie Morgan drew the names alongside Huskey.
Seniors Laken Anderson, Jayla Yonkers and Anna Torres will each receive their $1,000 as they head to college this fall. Laney Guidry, a 10th grader, and McKenzie Kotlowski, also a 10th grader, will have their scholarships held for two years. Eleventh graders Braxton Blagg and Gaige Wilson will have their awards held until they graduate.
The $7,000 in total awards is separate from the foundation’s traditional scholarship cycle. Morgan reminded students that applications for those scholarships are due April 1.
Morgan also encouraged students considering staying local to look into the Promise Scholarship, which covers tuition at ASU-Mountain Home.
