Sonny Sharp, whose family name adorns the Mountain Home Fire Department’s Sharp Family Station 2, has made an additional donation of more than $5,000 to the Baxter County Library Hill Trail project.
Sharp said the gift was made in honor of his late wife, Judi Ramey Sharp, a longtime library supporter who donated and hosted the library’s first website from the couple’s home computer. She was also an avid genealogical researcher whose collection is still featured in the library’s research area and available to the public.
“This library has become part of the very fabric of this community,” Sharp said. “This project should serve the public for generations. Judi and I are honored to be a very small part of it.”
The Library Hill Trail will be a multi-use walking and biking path that loops around the library campus and connects to nearby trail systems. The project is supported by $456,000 in federal funding awarded in 2024 through the Arkansas Department of Transportation’s Transportation Alternatives Program, which covers 80 percent of the anticipated construction cost.
The Baxter County Library Foundation said recent fundraising efforts had already secured enough money to complete basic construction of the trail. Sharp’s donation will go toward enhancements and help cover any unexpected costs that come up during the building process.
“I hope fundraising will continue to ensure resources for any unexpected costs that often occur during construction, or enable enhancements that might arise,” Sharp said.
The foundation said additional donations toward the project are still welcome as the library prepares for construction in coordination with ARDOT.
