The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Arkansas will pass through Mountain Home on Monday, May 19, with runners carrying the Flame of Hope along a route through the city.
Runners will meet at Bomber Plane Stadium at noon. The run begins at 12:15 p.m. and follows U.S. Highway 62 west to the corner of East 8th Street and South Main Street. Water will be provided by Rapps Barren Brewing Company.
Residents are encouraged to line the route and cheer on the runners. The Flame of Hope travels across Arkansas each spring to raise awareness for Special Olympics athletes and to mark the start of the state’s Summer Games.
The Mountain Home Police Department is hosting the local leg of the run. Law enforcement officers from across the state participate in the torch run, which culminates at the Summer Games opening ceremony.
Anyone interested in running must register and order an event T-shirt through specialolympicsarkansas.com. Questions can be directed to Keeshia DeShields with Special Olympics Arkansas at [email protected] or 479-586-2319.
