St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will host “Praying in Color,” a free workshop on using drawing and color as a form of prayer, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, in Keller Hall at the church, 511 Coley Drive.
The workshop is built for people who struggle to find the right words to pray or whose minds wander when they try to sit quietly. Instead of relying on spoken or written words, participants will use simple shapes, colors and patterns to slow down, focus and express hopes, concerns and gratitude.
No artistic experience is needed. The church says the goal is not to make a work of art but to discover a different way to pray.
The practice takes its name from Sybil MacBeth’s 2007 book “Praying in Color: Drawing a New Path to God,” which has spread through churches of many denominations.
The event is open to the public regardless of church affiliation, and all supplies will be provided.
