The Tri-Lakes Fly Fishers will celebrate three decades of angling heritage at their annual Fly Fishing & Fly Tying Expo scheduled for April 11-12, 2025, at the Benson Convention Center in Clinton, officials announced Tuesday.
The free, two-day event will feature demonstrations, hands-on activities and presentations aimed at anglers of all experience levels, from beginners to veterans of the sport.
“We’re excited to welcome fly-fishing enthusiasts of all levels—seasoned anglers, expert tyers, newcomers and the entire family alike—for two days of learning, camaraderie, and hands-on experiences,” said Sandy Halteman, president of Tri-Lakes Fly Fishers.
The expo marks a significant milestone for the organization, which was founded in Bolivar, Missouri, in 1995 by eight anglers from the Tri-Lakes region. Since then, the club has expanded to include members across the country while maintaining its focus on conservation and education.
John Van Vliet, Midwest field editor for Fly Fishing Magazine, will serve as the featured speaker, presenting “Fly Fishing the Driftless.” The lineup also includes more than 50 expert fly tyers from throughout the Midwest demonstrating their techniques.
Doug Oatman will showcase his signature pattern, “Doug’s Bassinator,” during a special fly tying demonstration. Additional activities include casting instruction and dedicated fly tying tables for beginners and children on Saturday.
“This Expo is a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the fly-fishing community, refine your skills, and enjoy an engaging lineup of speakers, demonstrations, and interactive activities,” Halteman said.
The event serves as the primary fundraiser for the nonprofit organization, which directs proceeds toward conservation efforts, educational programs and community outreach initiatives throughout Missouri and neighboring states.
Friday’s expo hours will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., while Saturday’s activities will extend from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase on site. The event will also feature silent auctions, raffles and live auctions with fishing gear and guided trips.
Established in 1999, the annual expo has grown into a regional attraction for the fly fishing community. The Tri-Lakes Fly Fishers organization operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on preserving local fisheries and natural resources.
