Two men have been arrested in connection with a March 30 double shooting on Bay Hill Place in rural Mountain Home that left them and a third man hospitalized, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office said.
John Way, 22, and his brother David Way, 20, were booked into the Baxter County Detention Center on charges including attempted capital murder, the sheriff’s office said. The third man involved in the gunfire exchange, Brett Cox, 50, was not charged.
Investigators said Cox approached the Way brothers after seeing them on his property, where he found them attempting to load a canoe belonging to him into a truck. Cox was carrying a shotgun.

A verbal argument followed, during which Cox allegedly fired a warning shot. John Way left through the woods to a nearby residence, returned with a rifle and began firing at Cox, who returned fire, the sheriff’s office said. Both men were struck and hospitalized.
While processing evidence, deputies said they found about 2 grams of suspected methamphetamine in John Way’s clothing.
John Way faces felony charges of attempted capital murder, aggravated robbery, possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms and possession of a firearm by certain persons. He also faces a misdemeanor criminal trespass charge. His bond is set at $100,000.
