Due to the threat of inclement weather, Mountain Home High School has released an updated plan for its Class of 2023 graduation ceremony on Friday, May 19.
According to high school principal Mary Beth Russell, graduation will be held on Friday evening in one of two locations. “We will hold graduation ceremonies on Friday at 8 p.m. on the high school campus,” she said. “Our plan is to watch the radar throughout the day on Friday, and then we’ll make the decision to hold the ceremony at the football stadium or in the gymnasium, but either way the graduation will be Friday at 8.”
If the ceremony is moved indoors, each student will be allowed to bring seven guests to the gymnasium. Seven tickets will be issued to each graduate on Friday morning during graduation practice. Russell noted that overflow seating for guests who do not have a ticket will be available in Dunbar Auditorium, where a livestream of the ceremony will be played. “Of course our main goal is to have this event outside, but we do have a solid plan if weather requires us to pivot,” she said. “I know we’ll have graduates who do not need all seven of their tickets and others who would like more, so I encourage families to work together and help each other with this when possible.”
When the ceremony’s location is determined on Friday evening, the district will post an announcement on social media, send a text to senior guardians, and will notify the local media as well. Russell noted that the MHPS Class of 2023 Parents/Guardians Facebook group would be a great place for people to connect to exchange extra tickets, etc. She also suggests that families have towels available if the ceremony is held outside as bleachers will likely be wet. Shuttle buses from Hackler Intermediate School and Mountain Home Junior High will begin running at 6:45 p.m. on Friday.
