The Baxter County Library proudly announces its participation in the Arkansas Quilt Trail with the unveiling of a beautiful quilt square. A small ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 1st, marking the official inclusion of the Library in this cherished statewide tradition.
Titled “A Library Community,” the quilt square is a testament to the collaborative spirit and creativity of the Library’s community members. In 2023, the Summer Reading theme was “All Together Now,” and the timing was right. Designed by local artists Darlene and Steve Landrum, the Library Art Committee worked to choose a final design and refine the color choices of the quilt square.
With enthusiastic participation from art lovers, artists, passionate community members, members of the Library Art Committee, Library Foundation, and Library Staff, the quilt square was completed as true labor of love.
The Baxter County Library said it is honored to join the Arkansas Quilt Trail and to contribute to the vibrant tapestry of cultural and artistic expression in our community. The quilt square expresses Baxter County Library’s core purpose, to Inspire Imagination, Ignite Interests, and Enable Learning. The Baxter County Library logo, a book tree, is centered in the middle, reminding us of how books enable learning and help us grow. The stacks of colorful books include a dictionary reminding us to look up new words and take on new challenges. The rest of the books were left without titles to inspire imagination; each person coming to the library can find their favorite books in the stacks and let their imagination take flight.
The library also included simple quilt blocks in each corner to remind us of the long history of quilt making and hopefully ignite interest in learning more about quilting and the story of barn quilts throughout Arkansas, in Amish country, and throughout the nation.
